This critical phase offers hospitals a rare opportunity to rethink their replacement strategy and prepare for the future to meet today’s challenges and tomorrow’s healthcare needs.
Against this backdrop, Mesalvo hosted a webinar on December 12 titled "Clinical Expertise, Mobility, Data and Interoperability" to present the successor solution for IS-H and i.s.h.med. Holger Cordes, CEO, and PD Dr. Matthias Wuttke, CIO, along with a selected expert team, provided participants with a comprehensive insight into Mesalvo’s future KIS/KAS solution.
Holger Cordes opened the event by emphasizing why the upcoming KIS change is not a challenge but primarily an opportunity for new and improved clinical solutions. He outlined the perspectives of hospital decision-makers and described the wide range of challenges such as healthcare reform, outpatient care expansion, staff shortages, and cost pressures – all of which are exacerbated by the withdrawal of KIS providers. Cordes encouraged participants to consider what answers their (future) KIS solutions could offer to these challenges and how EMR (Electronic Medical Record) solutions like those Mesalvo envisions can sustainably advance clinical excellence. He posed the question of whether a platform shift is a problem or a rare chance for a quantum leap and explained which factors will determine the future of KIS from Mesalvo's perspective.
Portfolio Manager Dr. Martin Hoffmann followed by providing an overview of the clinical and administrative processes in the IS-H and i.s.h.med context and presented Mesalvo’s solution offering. He emphasized the depth and breadth of Mesalvo’s product portfolio, which has long been used successfully for patient administration, clinical documentation, process control, and billing.
“We know that no two hospitals operate the same, so solid and systematically supported best-practice processes must be combined with high flexibility in detail,” Hoffmann explained. He stressed that Mesalvo already offers many solutions “out-of-the-box” and provides hospitals with the tools to expand, supplement, or individualize them.
At the same time, Mesalvo is investing heavily in the technological advancement of its platform strategy and aims to provide existing, proven solutions as software-as-a-service applications and successively expand them with standardized and cost-efficient web applications.
“We accompany you and your patients along the entire treatment path – from admission to billing. Mesalvo maps all essential processes in the hospital – both administrative and clinical,” said Björn Maucher, Vice President Sales & Marketing, in his presentation. He emphasized that hospitals reviewing their strategy can rely on Mesalvo as an experienced partner to support platform migration, solve individual challenges together, identify new opportunities, and deliver optimal solutions.
CIO PD Dr. Matthias Wuttke provided a deeper insight into Mesalvo’s development strategy. He presented the Mesalvo Clinical Data Repository as a central repository with query capabilities for clinical data objects and shared business logic. Wuttke explained how Mesalvo’s two existing products, “Meona” and “ClinicCentre,” will seamlessly integrate into the new service-based architecture.
“I am proud that we have already successfully integrated our solutions with IS-H and i.s.h.med. We can already synchronize data from IS-H and i.s.h.med into the platform via the proven BAPI interface implemented in Meona. This means we can initially retain IS-H and i.s.h.med as the leading system. This is particularly appealing because it allows a migration scenario during live operation without significant risks,” said Wuttke. “Based on the shared data, we can then use functionalities from Meona and/or ClinicCentre to gradually replace IS-H and i.s.h.med functions, and also work with new web interfaces on this data,” he continued. Mesalvo not only offers process support in the IS-H context, but also collaborative features like care alerts or push notifications in the Meona curve, which will be further expanded in the future.
Holger Cordes concluded the digital event by highlighting the strategic importance of a Clinical Data Repository for the future of hospital information systems. He emphasized the need for interoperability as an integral component of a complete patient record and stated that Mesalvo is already pursuing this approach today.
