The confirmation process for interoperable data exchange by information systems in hospitals (ISiK) by Gematik is mandatory under § 373 SGB V for software products used as central primary information systems in hospitals. It aims to ensure that hospital information systems can communicate with each other to exchange health data in a secure and interoperable way. This contributes to improved quality in healthcare and facilitates coordination between different medical facilities.
ISiK Base Level 1 Certification Completed for Mesalvo KIS ClinicCentre
Mesalvo has already successfully completed the ISiK Base Level 1 certification process for its KIS ClinicCentre and thus meets the required interoperability standards. The final confirmation from Gematik has been granted. After certification, the company will provide its customers with suitable interfaces.
Base Level 1 includes guidelines and standards for data exchange between various actors in the healthcare system, including doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, and health insurance companies. It also regulates the rights and consent of patients regarding their health data and the use of the electronic health card (eGK).
Voluntary ISiK Certification Process Planned for Mesalvo KAS Meona
Non-mandatory systems like Mesalvo’s clinical workplace system (KAS) Meona also have the option to undergo the process voluntarily.
"At this point in time, we do not see relevant use cases for our KAS Meona in ISiK Phase 1, as our KAS is not used as a patient-leading system," comments Marcus Mäurer, CPTO at Mesalvo. "Nonetheless, we intend to comply with legal requirements and are therefore not only working on integrating the ISiK standard into our KIS systems, but also plan to implement ISiK compliance for our KAS systems in the future."
About ISiK
For the exchange of health data, Gematik is developing a binding standard via a standardized interface for IT systems in hospitals, thus fulfilling its legal mandate under § 373 SGB V. ISiK stands for "Informationstechnische Systeme in Krankenhäusern" (Information Technology Systems in Hospitals). More information about ISiK in healthcare can be found at:
