Mesalvo is expanding its development capacities and is relying on the high-tech location of Barcelona by acquiring Almato Medical, a company of DATAGROUP, to counter the shortage of skilled workers in Germany. The metropolis of Barcelona is considered Spain’s high-tech hub and thus offers the perfect conditions for an attractive company location. Around 20 highly skilled employees in Barcelona are working on the further development of Mesalvo software and the successful design and implementation of an increasing number of complex hospital projects.
Mesalvo has been successfully collaborating with Almato Medical in software development for over twelve months and is building on an experienced and established team through the acquisition. The Spanish team has already gained experience working with Mesalvo and the various product lines, both the hospital information system (HIS) ClinicCentre and the clinical workplace system (CWS) Meona.
Joel Martinez will take on the role of Managing Director of the new subsidiary Mesalvo Medical Software, S.L.U. in Barcelona. With the support of Martinez, systematic development support will flow from the new development site in Spain to the German companies, with the goal of offering the most functionally rich HIS/CWS in the German-speaking healthcare IT market. The German development teams are working closely with their colleagues in Barcelona, who contribute their expertise, capacity, and experience in software development to the German development leads.
Martinez began on June 1, 2023, as Head of Development at Mesalvo Freiburg and will, in addition to his role as Managing Director, also assume responsibility as Head of the software development teams in Freiburg and Barcelona. The native Puerto Rican combines in this complex role his solid knowledge in software development and his expertise in product management. In addition to Spanish as his mother tongue, he also speaks fluent German and English and holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering.
