Mesalvo is expanding its portfolio of digital pharmacy solutions and fully integrates the AI-supported camera system DrugCam® into the Zenzy production module. As part of the further development of the bidirectional interface between Meona and Zenzy, this solution will in future be combined under the name HealthCentre | Oncology and will be gradually transferred into the unified HealthCentre architecture.

The integration into the Zenzy production module creates a seamless digital in-process control for the aseptic preparation of patient-specific chemotherapies. Critical manufacturing steps are automatically visually inspected and documented directly in the system – without media disruptions and without parallel applications.

Digital precision in a highly sensitive process

The preparation of patient-specific cytostatic infusions is one of the most sensitive processes in the pharmacy. Dosage is based on individual parameters such as height, weight, and the patient’s current general condition; even the smallest deviations can endanger patient safety, as these are highly potent substances. At the same time, the medications used are often very expensive, meaning that production errors also carry significant economic consequences.

The production module structures and documents the entire manufacturing process electronically. DrugCam® complements this foundation with continuous AI-based image analysis: manufacturing steps are monitored in real time, deviations are immediately detected, and documented in a traceable manner.

This enhances the established cytostatics program Zenzy with an additional safety-relevant component, particularly in light of the shortage of skilled personnel and increasing patient numbers. As part of the strategic development of Meona and Zenzy, the solution will in future be embedded in the integrated oncology concept HealthCentre | Oncology, which is designed to comprehensively cover the requirements of oncology departments in hospitals and private practices.

Integration into the existing workflow

Full integration into the Zenzy production module eliminates the need for additional system changes and parallel documentation processes. Verification and documentation steps take place directly within the familiar workflow.

Noticeable relief in the cleanroom

Work in cytostatics production takes place under cleanroom conditions and requires the highest level of concentration. Traditional control mechanisms such as the four-eyes principle increase safety but also require additional personnel resources.

Through AI-supported visual control, additional manual verification steps are reduced without replacing skilled professionals. The system specifically supports the work of pharmaceutical technical assistants as well as approving pharmacists. At the same time, visual documentation improves traceability for internal quality controls and external audits.

Great potential in a new partnership

“The close collaboration with Mesalvo shows how much potential lies in strong partnerships in healthcare,” says Martin Leclercq, International Partnerships Manager at Eurekam. “By integrating DrugCam® into production processes, we are jointly creating a solution that relieves the burden on clinics in everyday operations while further enhancing safety for patients.”

Efficiency gains and increased patient safety

Manufacturing processes are consistently supported digitally and documented in a traceable and audit-compliant manner. In medium-sized hospital pharmacies, the effort required for control can be noticeably reduced, freeing up personnel capacity for core pharmaceutical tasks. At the same time, process and patient safety increase through the immediate identification of manufacturing deviations.
